At the recent executive meeting of the World Boxing Federation in Albania, the organization unanimously elected Butch Gottlieb, from Nevada, as their new Women’s Boxing Chairman. Gottlieb has been in boxing for 20 years and along with his wife, boxing photographer Mary Ann Owen, have managed many female world champions. He also spent five years on the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Gottlieb’s goals are very simple and that is to have credible champions in credible fights: ”I believe that titles and title shots must be earned and not handed out just to fill a vacant title,” says Gottlieb, who also owns and operates the website www.BoxinginLasVegas.com. “I want to see more women from the USA going to Europe to fight for and to defend titles and not have to worry about getting the short end of the scoring because the opponent is the promoter’s fighter. A level playing field is all the women ask for, and they deserve just that. I will strive to see that happens.”
Further changes and additions in the directory of the World Boxing Federation are in the process of being officialised and will be announced soon!
