July 5, 2011

The World Boxing Federation is excited to announce the addition of Denmark’s Torben Seemann Hansen to its staff, who will become the first chairman of the organizations’ Executive Committee with immediate effect.

At the same time, the duties of the ExCo have been re-formulated and extended and it will now also act as a task force in developing strategies to achieve the WBF’s objectives and optimize its activities.

To that effect, WBF President Howard Goldberg (South Africa) and WBF Vice President Jean Marcel Nartz (Germany) have resigned from the Committee, with new members to be added in due course on Seemann Hansen’s recommendations. Besides being an accomplished judge in 167 international championship bouts, Torben is a former vice president of the European Boxing Union (EBU), and headed many committees for them over the years. He is still serving as EBA (European Boxing Association) vice president and was both General Secretary and chairman of the Danish Federation and also held administrative posts with the WBC and the minor IBO. The experience which Torben accumulated in more than 40 years in the sport will now be put to use for the World Boxing Federation.

In other news WBF internal news, John Levy Prado has been appointed Regional Representative for Panama and will work under the Continental Coordinator for Latin America, Sergio Sotelo. Also, Italy’s Matteo Fratini was released from his positions as ExCo member and Honory Consultant, but the WBF hopes he will continue to accept assignments as judge.
