Many South African boxing
enthusiasts and experts
considered Emmany Kalombo a
healthy underdog for his WBF
Intercontinental Super
Welterweight title fight against
former title-holder, South
African Champion and two-time
world title-challenger Nkululeko
Mhlongo on March 23 in
Johannesburg.
But the Congo-born puncher,
nicknamed “The General” rose to
the occasion, and scored a
brutal fifth round knockout of
his more experienced foe, in
what was arguably the best fight
to date in South Africa this
year.
Kalombo took his professional
record to 9-0 (9), lifted the
WBF title, and secured himself
the honour of being the WBF
Boxer of the Month for March
2018.
