On Friday night, local hero’s
Mark Flanagan (6-2, 2 K.o.’s)
and Manny Vlamis (7-2, 4 K.o.’s)
will battle each other for the
vacant WBF Asia Pacific light
heavyweight title at the
Tattersalls Club in Brisbane,
Queensland, Australia.
For the first time in the
history of the reformed WBF, an
Asia Pacific regional title will
be on the line. The bout also
marks the WBF debut in
Australia.
In front of a member’s only
crowd, Flanagan and Vlamis both
hope to grab the WBF Asia
Pacific belt in order to give
their careers a boost and
qualify for bigger challenges in
the future. The winner might be
in line for another title bout
at 175 pounds, possibly a shot
at the International or
Intercontinental belts.
While the WBF Intercontinental
title is still vacant, Slovenian
Denis Simcic is the current
International beltholder. The
WBF’s world champion at light
heavyweight is Polish powerhouse
Dawid Kostecki, but a world
title challenge appears to be
much too soon for either
Flanagan or Vlamis at such an
early stage of their careers.
