Jose Luis Roa passed the biggest
test of his professional career
to date, when he defeated
Giovannie Gonzalez for the
vacant World Boxing Federation
(WBF) International Lightweight
title on Sunday, November 29, in
Tijuana, Mexico.
In a gruelling fight at the
Nuevo Plaza De Torros, where
many rounds appeared difficult
to score, this was two
hard-as-nails fighters who
proved their mettle by warring
it out for the entire ten
rounds. Gonzalez probably landed
the harder shots, while Roa
connected at a higher volume.
Had there been a crowd in
attendance, everyone would
certainly have been on their
feet cheering throughout, and
both boxers can be very proud of
the performance they put on. A
rematch would definitely be
highly welcomed!
In the end, judges Roman Cruz
and Carlos De La Rocha scored
the fight 98-92 and 97-93 for
Mexicali´s “El Mirrus” Roa,
while judge Juan Manuel Rincon
saw Stockton, California-based
“King Gio” Gonzalez as the
winner by 97-93.
Going undefeated since losing
his pro debut in 2014, Roa is
now 10-1-1 (6). Gonzalez, who
has been unlucky coming up short
in some close fights, falls to a
very deceiving 10-6-1 (8).
Broadcast live world-wide on
Youtube by Best in Boxing, the
fight was the main event of a
show promoted by Borizteca
Boxing Promotions in association
with King Gio Boxing Promotions.
