Undefeated Mexican rivals Juan
Esteban Garcia and Moises Caro
Gutierez rematched on Thursday
March 18 in Mexicali, with the
vacant World Boxing Federation
(WBF) International Light
Flyweight title on the line.
The pair had fought to a draw in
June of 2019, and regrouped with
two and three victories
respectively to set up an
anticipated second go-around.
And once again it was a
high-paced, competitive and
close fight, with both men
reluctant to take a backward
step, which resulted in quite a
few clinches. Both had their
moments, and in several rounds
it appeared hard to separate
them.
After ten rounds of
entertaining, but sometimes
messy, action, judges Ramon
Urias Gonzalez, Jose David
Garcia and Miguel Angel Bupunari
scored the fight 97-93 (Garcia),
95-95 and 94-96 (Caro Gutierez)
for another draw, and no new WBF
champion.
23-year-old “El Alzabachito”
Garcia´s record now stands at
9-0-2 (7), and “El Profeta” Caro
Gutierez (22) sees his ledger
move to 8-0-2 (5).
Billed as “Clash of the
Undefeated”, the fight was the
main event of a show promoted by
Lider Promotion, headed by
Ignacio Marmolejo Alvarez.
The score unsettled between
these two young warriors, a
third fight is almost bound to
happen sooner or later!
