Heavyweight legend and current
WBF world champion Evander
Holyfield scored a one-sided
tenth round technical knockout
over Denmark’s boxing hero Brian
Nielsen at the Koncerthuset in
Copenhagen in a non-title
affair.
The 48-years old Holyfield
dominated the action from the
get-go and punished Nielsen for
most of the rounds.
The Danish fighter, at age 46
and in his first fight since
nine years, showboated most of
the time and showed great heart
but was unable to do any damage
at all.
Holyfield dropped Nielsen with a
beautiful left hook combination
in the third and battered him
until the referee called a halt
to the action at 2:49 of round
ten.
At the time of the stoppage, all
three judges had Holyfield ahead
88-82. “The Real Deal” moves to
44-10-2 with 29 KO’s, while
Nielsen falls to 64-3 with 43
KO’s.
The WBF refused to sanction the
Holyfield-Nielsen bout because
Nielsen had not fought since
2002 and was therefore not
acceptable as a world title
challenger. |
