Andranik Hakobyan is the new World
Boxing Federation (WBF)
Intercontinental Welterweight
champion after winning the vacant
title on Saturday, December 11.
At the TrafoHalle in Baden,
Switzerland, Hakobyan scored a wide
unanimous decision over previously
undefeated Italian Alessandro
Fersula.
Judges Armin Bracher and Monika
Hofmann scored it 100-90, while
judge Marcel Werder had it 99-91,
giving one round to Fersula.
Hakobyan, born in Armenia but now a
Swiss national, improved his
professional record to 16-1-2 (6).
Fersula falls to 6-1 (1).
Also on Saturday, at the Boxclub
Home of Champions in
Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, Germany,
Romanian Victor Ionascu won the
vacant WBF Intercontinental Super
Welterweight title.
Frankfurt-based Ionascu scored a
sixth round technical knockout, when
Hungarian co-challenger Oszkar Fiko
could not continue due to a ruptured
eardrum.
With the victory, Ionascu took his
professional record to 10-1 (7),
while Fiko is now 34-34-1 (17).
