The media department of the
World Boxing Federation (WBF),
headed by Media Director Clive
Baum, has been substantially
strengthened by the adding of
renowned boxing journalist Dan
Hernandez of Los Angeles.
Besides reporting on the
stateside activities of the WBF,
like the
recent International title win
of Miguel Gonzalez,
Hernandez will write an
exclusive column entitled
“Dan’s
Corner”, which has
took off with his memories of
Jerry Quarry. Also, readers are
invited to send in their
questions to Dan, making “Dan’s
Corner” an interactive feature.
Hernandez, 64, is a lifelong
boxing fan, having attended
fights at the Olympic
Auditorium, Hollywood Legion
Stadium and even Dodger Stadium
in his childhood days. A desire
to reminisce about past fights
and fighters and experiencing
news ones led Dan to become an
internet writer, and he was so
astute that he soon he took on
the role of lead interviewer
with the
ringsidereport.com
website.
Just a partial list of the
boxing personalities he had the
pleasure to meet as interview
subjects reads like a Hall of
Fame-roster: Joe and Marvis
Frazier, Carmen Basilio, Gene
Fullmer, John Montes, Chad
Dawson, Steve Albert, Al
Bernstein, Billy Backus, Israel
Vasquez, Antonio Margarito,
Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny
Pacquaio, Freddie Roach and many
more. He also reported on major
bouts from both California and
Nevada.
However, Hernandez retired from
that position some time back to
devote more time to his wife of
46 years, three daughters and
now 10-year-old grandson. But
when the offer came to join the
WBF media team, it brought Dan
back with a renewed fervor to
his favorite sport:
“The WBF, with its new and
innovative ideas, offers an
excellent presence and showcase
for my adventures and opinions
on boxing,” Hernandez said. |
