Enerolisa de Leon from The Dominican
Republic shocked reigning champion
Elina Tissen to win the World Boxing
Federation (WBF) Womens World
Featherweight title on Saturday
November 19 in Warendorf, Germany.
Fighting out of Madrid, Spain, the
40-year-old challenger showed that
age is just a number, as she
pressured the home-town favorite
from the first bell and unsettled
the champion, proving very focused
and determined.
Tissen (36), who had won the WBF
world title in May of 2021 and
successfully defended it last
December, could not find her normal
form and rhythm, and looked a step
behind in most rounds.
After round eight, the corner of
Tissen decided that enough was
enough, and pulled their fighter
out, making the huge upset a reality
by ninth round technical knockout.
The new world champion takes her
record to 7-6-2 (3), while Tissen
lost for only the third time since
turning pro in 2006, dropping to
25-3 (6).
