Long-time undisputed women’s
world supermiddleweight champion
Natascha Ragosina
continued her supremacy by
almost effortlessly jumping up
to heavyweight in her
surprisingly first ring
appearance in Russia as a
professional. Contesting the
vacant World Boxing Federation
and Women’s International Boxing
Federation titles, the
33-year-old utterly dominated
her Guyanese opponent Pamela
London until finally
knocking her flat out in round
eight in Ekaterinburg on
Saturday, Dec. 19.
The fact that Ragosina, now 22-0
(13), was outweight by almost 30
(!) kilos (being just above the
supermiddle limit at 78 kg
against London’s 107 kg) makes
her achievement of a clean
knockout all the more
remarkable.
Prior to that, however, Ragosina
cleverly turned her weight
disadvantage around, using quick
feet and lightning-fast
combinations to completely
outclass London.
Natascha had so far conducted
her whole career in Germany,
under the promotional banner of
SES Boxing (who coincidentally
also promote the WBF’s male
heavyweight champion Francois
Botha) and enjoys equally high
popularity in both Russia and
Germany. Her fights are
televised in both countries.
The show was a joint promotion
between Ulf Steinforth’s SES
Boxing and German Titov Boxing
Promotion. The officials were
referee Alexander Kalinkin from
Russia, as was judge Viktor
Panin, plus Dieter Adam and
Holger Wiemann from Germany. WBF
supervisor was Heike Huber.
