Freddy “Pretty Boy” Kiwitt won the
vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF)
World Super Welterweight title on
Friday night, November 25, at the
Deutches Haus in Flensburg, Germany.
Kiwit was originally planned to
fight Harry Simon Jr., but was
instead matched with Venezuelan Luis
Enrique Romero when the Namibian
pulled out on short notice.
Kiwitt was by far the better boxer,
and had success when he fired off
blistering combinations and kept his
distance, but Romero was gritty and
determined, and dangerous when they
fought at close quarters.
It was a competitive and
entertaining fight when Romero lured
Kiwitt into going to-toe-toe with
him, but the Liberia-born German
showed that he was also happy and
comfortable fighting in this way.
After the half-way point Romero
appeared somewhat affected by the
high pace, and Kiwitt was awarded a
questionable knock-down in round
eight.
However, there was no doubt in round
ten when Kiwitt connected with hard
hooks and floored Romero again. The
visitor looked done, but gamely made
it to his feet and was allowed to
carry on.
But before the start of round
eleven, the trainer of Romero
informed that his fighter would not
continue, making Kiwitt the winner
by technical knockout.
A very good performance from both
men, and the new world champion
improved his record to 25-3 (15),
while Romero drops to 11-7-1 (7).
The fight was promoted by Kahrlo
Rueda.
