Two South Africa-based Congolese
warriors will clash for the vacant
World Boxing Federation (WBF) All
Africa Light Heavyweight title on
March 27 at the Turffontein
Racecourse in Johannesburg.
Up-and-coming Jason Medi, 6-1 (2),
takes on battle-tested Jimmy “The
Beast” Mabundji, 10-7 (8), who is by
far the most accomplished opponent
Medi will have faced.
Medi lost his pro debut in July of
2022, a decision to undefeated
Asemahle Wellem, but has looked
impressive since and is now primed
and ready for the most significant
fight of his career so far.
Like Medi, Jimmy Mabundji has been
based in South Africa since turning
pro, and, except for one fight in
Zimbabwe, all his bouts have taken
place there.
In June of 2017 he won the WBF All
Africa Middleweight title with a
first round demolition of Dido
Mukanya, and now he gets a chance to
become a two-time, two-weight WBF
champion almost seven years later.
Medi is arguably the fresher of the
two, but the experience and
toughness of Mabundji will be a
tough task for him to overcome.
The fight headlines Breakthrough V,
a show promoted by BRD Boxing
Promotions.
