On a big card promoted by Stephen
Vaughan Jr. at the Intercontinental
Hotel in St. Julians, Malta,
broadcast Live by DAZN and
FightZone, two new World Boxing
Federation (WBF) champions were
crowned on Friday night, October 4.
Malta-based German Heavyweight Renke
Wittke jumped in at the deep end in
only his fourth pro fight, as he
took on experienced Colombian Juan
Camilo “La Boa” Novoa for the vacant
WBF Intercontinental Heavyweight
title.
Wittke looked excellent as he
handled his tough opponent well, and
eventually over-powered him with a
flurry at the end of round three.
Novoa took a knee, and was counted
out. Official time: 3:00.
Nicknamed “Drago”, Wittke passed his
first big test and is now 4-0 (4),
while Novoa (42), who challenged for
the WBA Interim world Middleweight
title in 2013, falls to 32-13-2
(29).
At Light Heavyweight, Romanian
teenager Andrei Cristian Florian
(19) beat another Colombian
battle-tested veteran in Jose Miguel
“Mochuelito” Torres to win the
vacant WBF International title.
Florian was too fresh, strong and
fast for Torres, knocking him down
three times in the second round,
before ending matters with another
knock-down in round three. Referee
Zbigniew Lagosz waved it off at
1:36.
Florian, a pro for only ten months,
is now 7-0 (4) in the paid ranks.
Torres (45), a pro since 2003, drops
to 38-22 (29).
