Willy Kyakonye had no trouble
defeating Venezuelan Wilmer Vasquez
for the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) world Heavyweight
title on Saturday night, May 17, in
Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
Kyakonye quickly found his range and
forced Vasquez into a corner where
he detonated a huge right hand,
sending his foe down for the full
count. Time of stoppage: 2:51 of
round one.
Entering the fight as the WBF
International titlist, the
Uganda-born Kyakonye showed
thunderous power, and would have
finished most opponents with the
shot he landed on Vasquez.
It was clinical and impressive, and
the new WBF world champion is
clearly ready for even tougher
challenges in the future.
Kyakonye improved his pro ledger to
11-0 (10). Vasquez falls to 13-4-2
(8).
