23-year-old World Boxing Federation (WBF) Women’s Flyweight World Champion Irma “La Guerita” Sanchez is set to make the first defense of her crown on October 8 at Los Cabos, Baja California Sur in her native Mexico.

Sanchez, 20-5-1 (6), will take on compatriot Susana Cruz Perez, 5-2 (2), on a show promoted by Hector Garcia and his HG Boxing. The fight will be televised by Mexico Televisa.

“La Guerita” won the WBF World title this past July in her hometown of Guadalajara by stopping Panamanian Carlota Santos in seven rounds.

She will now be returning to the city where she has fought once previously, defending a minor championship against Thailand’s Kanittha Kokietgym last year.

“I was actually hoping to make my first defense in Guadalajara, but as World Champion you have to be ready to fight anywhere and I hope we will get a lot of support in Los Cabos”, said Sanchez, who is confident she will beat Perez convincingly:

“I am concentrating on my preparations, and with that I am sure I will get a good result. I always work hard, and never think about losing. I know there are no easy opponents, but I feel great physically and mentally”.

Despite a relatively short confirmed fight-record, Susana Cruz Perez already has two title fights under her belt. Last year she lost a split decision to current IBF World Champion Jessica Chavez for the NABF championship, and in June she came up short against former WBA World Champion Ibeth Zamora Silva.

Last time out Perez beat Laura Sanchez on points, and she will be fighting hard to win her first world title in her third crack at a world-class fellow Mexican. Will Irma Sanchez be able to emulate what Chavez and Silva did, or will Perez finally get her hands raised in victory and become a champion? October 8 will provide the answer…
