Mexican warriors Jose “Piston”
Lopez and Jose Emilio “Gigante”
Perea will clash for the vacant
World Boxing Federation World
Welterweight title on August 17
in Guadalajara, Mexico on a show
promoted by HG Boxing and
Promociones Del Pueblo.
Fighting out of the city of
Torreon, 21-year-old Jose Lopez
made his professional debut in
January 2010, and has since
compiled a fine record of 16-2-1
(10).
He made his first real
impression on the scene when he
defeated former world champion
Cesar Soto, a veteran of
eighty-four bouts, in only his
ninth outing to capture a
regional title.
After a successful title defense
against Jhonny Navarette, Lopez
scored his most impressive
victory in May 2011 when he came
off the floor in the first round
to win a split decision over
Jorge Paez Jr., son of the
legendary former world champion
by the same name. Paez Jr. is
these days a world-class
contender at Super Welterweight.
In his most recent fight, this
past June, Lopez stopped the
previously undefeated Juan
Manuel Leal in four rounds, and
he seems ready for another big
challenge and his first shot at
a world championship when he
takes on Perea in Guadalajara.
Jose Emilio Perea is 29-years
old and entered the professional
ranks in 2005. Born in Pachuca,
where he still resides today,
Perea had six of his first seven
paid bouts in Mexico City, about
ninety kilometers away. Over the
cause of the last seven years he
put together a 21-1 (13) ledger,
and has progressed into one of
the leading contenders in the
country.
Having won a few regional
straps, this will, just like
Lopez, be the first world
championship opportunity for
Perea, who has been inactive
since last November and will be
roaring to get back into action.
Both fighters know this is a
huge opportunity for them to
fulfill their dreams of becoming
a world champion, and it will
almost certainly be a very good
scrap. |
