World Boxing Federation Women’s
World Middleweight Champion
Christina Hammer (12-0, 7 KOs)
is all set for her fourth title
defense on September 7 at the
RWE Rhein-Ruhr Sporthalle in
Muelheim, Germany when she takes
on Dominican challenger Yahaira
Hernandez.
One of the youngest world
champions in the game,
22-year-old Hammer won the WBF
World title in February 2011
against Hungarian Diana Kiss,
and has since impressively
defended her crown by defeating
Sweden’s Super Welterweight
World Champion Maria Lindberg,
American Vashon Living and South
African Champion Julie
Tshabalala.
On September 7 she will be
looking to put a stamp on her
dominance of the middleweight
division, where she is a clear
number one in the BoxRec
computerized world rankings, in
front of 4000 spectators, less
than 50 kilometers from her
hometown Dortmund:
“I am looking forward to the
fight. A lot of my fans in this
region are from Muelheim, and I
want to show them live, in the
arena, that I am the absolute
number one in women’s boxing”,
said an excited Hammer before
what will be the closest she has
been to fighting at home since
becoming world champion.
25-year-old Yahaira Hernandez
(11-3, 5 KOs) will be no easy
task though, and the Santo
Domingo-boxer is hoping to make
it third-time-lucky in Germany.
In 2007 she lost world
title-challenges to Natascha
Ragosina at Super Middleweight
in Magdeburg, and at Super
Welterweight to Karolina Lukasik
in Goeppingen.
In her most recent outing
Hernandez beat fellow Dominican
Mery Rancier last December, and
she has had plenty of time to
prepare for the fight against
Hammer. She is confident that
Middleweight is where she is
most effective, and that she
will be able to go home a world
champion this time.
Hernandez: “Ragosina was too big
for me at Super Middleweight,
and I am too big to make Super
Welterweight comfortably.
Middleweight is right in
between, and I will be at my
very best, at my strongest and
most dangerous in this weight
class. Hammer better be ready,
because she will have her hands
full. I am coming to win”.
The Christina Hammer vs, Yahaira
Hernandez World Boxing
Federation Middleweight World
title fight will be promoted by
SES Boxing, and will air live in
Germany on Sport 1 television.
Also on the show will be an
interesting heavyweight
encounter between Francesco
Pianeta and former WBF World
Heavyweight Champion Francois
Botha. |
