However, Montes was this time
clearly the better man and
seemed to have things under
control most of the way, as
Ibarra struggled to keep up but
always kept things interesting
with brave attacks.
After twelve highly entertaining
rounds, judges Francisco
Navarro, Enrique Sotelo and
Martin Godinez scored the bout
unanimously in favor of Juan
Jose Montes: 119-109, 119-110
and 118-111. The new champion
improved his record to 23-2-1
(14), and Ibrarra fell to 27-8
(18).
In the co-feature, Irma “La
Guerita” Sanchez retained her
WBF World Flyweight title by
out-pointing tough former World
Champion Carina Moreno from USA.
As expected, it turned out to be
a very competitive fight, and
the defending champion had to
give it her all to defeat the
experienced American.
Sanchez was the sharper of the
two, but despite connecting with
many hard and precise shots on
Moreno, the former multiple
weight champion never looked
discouraged and kept on coming
for more. Moreno had her own
share of success, and the
spectators were often kept on
the edge of their seats as the
two boxers traded blows.
In the end judges Navaro, Sotelo
and Godinez had it 96-94, 97-97,
97-93 for Sanchez, who improved
her professional ledger to
25-5-1 (7). Moreno dropped to
22-5 (6).
The show, staged at the Unidad
Deportivo Norte, was promoted by
HG Boxing in cooperation with
Promociones Del Pueblo and Baja
Boxing. Televisa televised live
throughout Mexico.
