Alexander Brand of Colombia is
the new World Boxing Federation
International Super Middleweight
Champion after scoring a shutout
unanimous decision over South
Africa’s former World Champion
William Gare on Friday night at
the Coliseo Bernardo Caraballo
in Cartagena, Colombia.
Brand improved his already
impressive record to 19-1 (15),
while the game Gare fell to
27-16 (5). The fight was
promoted by Hamir Gonzales, and
supervised by WBF President
Howard Goldberg.
With a capacity crowd cheering
on their hero, Brand continually
found the mark with his sneaky
and powerful right hand to which
Gare had no answer. The bout was
fought at a high pace, but every
round had Brand in control while
Gare was always one step behind.
After twelve rounds of boxing,
judges Jorge Hernandez, Rafael
Torres and Reymundo Alcazar
scored the fight 120-109,
120-109 and 120-110 for Brand.
Referee was Uriel Aguilera.
Brand's team is now eyeing a
possible meeting with WBF World
Super Middleweight champion
Marco Antonio Rubio in the new
year. Mexican Rubio won the
World title in September by
beating former World Champion
Carlos Baldomir from Argentina,
and a clash with Brand could be
an interesting possibility. |
