Malena Muneka Munoz is the new
World Boxing Federation Womens
International Lightweight
Champion after defeating fellow
Mexican Yolanda Segura on Friday
May 17 in Queretaro, Mexico.
The fight was originally
scheduled for May 18, but was
moved to one day earlier.
Munoz started the bout best and
seemed to have a relatively easy
time outmanoeuvring her
opponent, but after a few rounds
Segura came back strong and
landed some heavy blows.
However, in the final few rounds
it was Munoz clearly on top
again as she boxed well and
scored with combinations.
In the end, after ten
entertaining rounds, judges
Alberto Renaud, Gabriela del
Rosario and Alberto Avila scored
the fight 78-74, 77-75 and 80-72
in favour of hometown girl
Malena Muneka Munoz.
With the victory, Munoz improved
her professional record to 21-2
(10), while Segura falls to 14-5
(10). The new champion could now
be in the mix to face WBF World
Champion Lucia Morelli from
Italy.
The show, which was fought in
front of a packed and partisan
crowd, was promoted by Badillo
Promotions and featured an
undercard of martial arts bouts. |
