On Saturday October 26 at the
Express in Rostov on Don,
Russia. undefeated Natalia
Smirnova faces Hana Horakova
from the Czech Republic for the
vacant World Boxing Federation
Womens Intercontinental
Lightweight title.
The fight will be one of several
title fights on a massive
promotion staged by ITS
Promotion in cooperation with
SKV Boxing, and will be
televised live throughout Russia
on Boets TV.
Born in Samara, Russia, and
growing up on the banks of the
Volga River, Smirnova (6-0, 4
KOs) is currently based in
Hamburg, Germany. She turned
professional this past February
in Romania, and then won three
fights in Germany inside the
distance over the next few
months.
In May she returned to Russia to
take on Hana Horakova, who gave
the local fighter all she could
handle before Smirnova was
awarded a hard-fought unanimous
decision, and now the two are
set to rematch with the WBF
title on the line.
While it will be the first
championship fight in the career
or Horakova, who brings a
deceiving 3-9 record and has
boxed some of the best in the
world, Smirnova is coming off a
third round stoppage of the
previously undefeated Veronika
Hornyak in a fight where she
captured three regional belts.
Time will tell if Smirnova has
developed from the experience of
a title fight, or if Horakova
will again give her a tough
battle and a crowd-pleasing
fight.
