Two World Boxing Federation (WBF)
All-Africa titles will be on the
line, when Kalakoda Promotions,
headed by Steve Kalakoda,
presents professional
championship boxing at the Cape
Sun Hotel in Cape Town, South
Africa on Friday November 22.
With former World Heavyweight
Champion Gerrie Coetzee as a
special ringside guest,
Nkululeko
Vengenayi squares off
with
Themba
Tshicila for the vacant
Super Featherweight crown, while
Osborne Machimana and Elvis Moyo
are set to rematch with the
Heavyweight title at stake.
30-year-old Vengenayi,
originally from Zimbabwe but
based in South Africa throughout
a professional run that started
in 2008, brings a decent ledger
of 8-3 (7) but has only averaged
slightly over two fights a year
in the pro ranks. This will be
his first title fight, and a
great opportunity to put himself
on the map and kick start his
career.
Battle-tested South African
Themba
Tshicila (37) is by far
the more experienced of the two,
with thirty-nine contests
(25-11-3, 7 KOs) on a resume
that began in 1997. A former
two-time Eastern Cape titlist,
he has eight title bouts under
his belt and has fought much
bigger names than Vengenayi.
Former South African Champion
Osborne Machimana (18-7-2, 13
KOs) and Elvis Moyo (3-5-2, 1
KO), another S.A.-based
Zimbabwean, fought to a
controversial draw this past
March, and they are now set to
settle their unfinished business
in the second WBF All Africa
title fight of the evening.
“The first fight between
Machimana and Moyo ended
controversially with a draw last
time, and Moyo has told me that
this time he won’t let it be
close”, said WBF President
Howard Goldberg who will be
supervising the WBF
doubleheader.
“Also, Vengenayi
has worked extremely hard for a
title shot, its Zimbabwe vs.
South Africa in Cape Town on
Friday night, and it looks like
another excellent bill put
together by Kalekoda
Promotions”, continued Goldberg,
who is full of praise when it
comes to this particular
company:
“I was very impressed with the
last show put on by Kalekoda
Promotions, and it has only been
a pleasure working with them.
Once again they have put
together a quality show, and the
WBF title fights are going to be
great. The styles of these
boxers will blend amazingly, I
am sure!”
The two World Boxing Federation
title fights will be preceded by
an excellent undercard,
including a non title bout with
hard-punching 21-year-old WBF
All Africa Cruiserweight
champion Kevin “The Lean Mean”
Lerena (8-0, 6 KOs), fighting at
Heavyweight.
