Ivan “El Russo” Pereyra is the new World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Super Welterweight Champion after defeating fellow Mexican Christopher Degollado on Thursday night (December 5) at the Gimnasio Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico.

Fighting in his undefeated opponent’s hometown, 24-year-old Pereyra showed the heart of a champion and put on a very good performance over twelve rounds to win a unanimous decision.

The three judges at ringside scored the bout 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109 in favor of Pereyra, who was embraced by the crowd in the packed arena, despite defeating the hometown hero.

The new WBF Champion improved his professional record to 19-2 (13), while Degollado, challenging for his first title, loses for the first time in the paid ranks and drops to 10-1 (8).

Promoted by Eduardo Ganem, the show featured an interesting and entertaining undercard of local talent, and was broadcasted live by AYM Sports.
