The world mourns today the passing of one of the greatest human beings of all time. Humble, dignified, compassionate and inspirational  -  the world is a sadder place without the incredible man, Nelson Mandela.

Mr. Mandela epitomized the strength of human spirit. His capacity to forgive, to lead and to inspire was and will always be his signature. His capacity to unite South Africa, and South Africans was something only the great Madiba could accomplish.

I was fortunate enough to meet this great man one time only, and appropriately it was at a boxing show at Emperor's Palace where Baby Jake Matlala made his final appearance. I still get goosebumps when I think of that great night with the most amazing human being ever.

Nelson Mandela's suffering is over and he is at peace. Never to be forgotten, not only by South Africans but by the entire world. His legacy will live forever and we are challenged with the task of honoring his memory with acts of human kindness.

On behalf of everyone at the World Boxing Federation, I would like to express my condolences to the Mandela family during this difficult time, and while our hearts ache, we remember his greatness.

Rest in peace Madiba. We love you and will never forget you. Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika!

Howard Goldberg, WBF President.
