The World Boxing Federation (WBF)
has started 2014 with a bang,
with its first
title fight in the Philippines
since its reestablishment in
2009 as Sanman Promotions, Peter
Maniatis Events and JM
Promotions will be staging a
clash between undefeated rising
stars for the vacant WBF
International Flyweight title on
Tuesday January 14.
22-year-old Michael Enriquez,
who brings a 7-0-1 (4) record,
takes on fellow countryman Jake
Bornea (4-0, 3 KOs) at the Oval
Plaza Covered Court in General
Santos City, in a bout that also
doubles for the vacant
Philippines Flyweight crown.
With the WBF World Flyweight
title scheduled to be contested
in South Africa at the end of
February, Enriquez has his eyes
firmly set on challenging the
winner, and is not concerned
about possibly having to travel
for the opportunity. However, he
obviously needs to get by Bornea
first.
With the prospect of the great
Manny Pacquiao being ringside,
along with a sold out and
passionate crowd, both boxers
are highly motivated to not only
put on a good show for the fans,
but to keep the outstanding
reputation of Filipino boxers
intact.
The Michael “Blade” Enriquez vs.
Jake “Bonbon” Bornea World
Boxing Federation International
Flyweight title fight is the
main event of a massive
twelve-bout card, with the
undercard featuring some of the
area’s most talented prospects.
