Filipino Super Flyweights Daryl
Basadre and Julius Alcos will
clash for the vacant World
Boxing Federation (WBF)
International title on Thursday
March 20 in General Santos City,
when JM Promotions in
association with Sanman
Promotions welcomes fans to
another evening of top-class
boxing.
21-year-old “Flash” Basadre
(10-1-1, 7 KOs) is the local
man, and despite being much less
experienced than Cebu City
veteran Alcos (22-13, 4 KOs),
eight years older at 29, he must
be considered the favorite in an
otherwise evenly matched affair.
Last September Basadre suffered
his careers first defeat when he
came up short against former
world champion Suriyan Sor
Rungvisai in Thailand, but he
has since rebounded in style
with a devastating first round
knockout in January over the
usually durable Nelson Llanos.
A former Asian champion, Julius
Alcos has fought for numerous
titles and shared a ring with
many world-class opponents since
turning professional in 2002.
Almost all of his thirteen
defeats have come in competitive
fights against top-class
operators, and only future world
champion Sonny Boy Jaro managed
to stop him inside the distance.
Like Basadre, Alcos is also
coming off an impressive
knockout victory, in December he
leveled featherweight Rowel
Garcia in six rounds, so it will
be two confident boxers squaring
off for the WBF belt at the
Lagao Gym.
General admission will be free
to the public for the show,
which has been labeled Southside
Beatdown and is presented in
cooperation with Mayor Ronnel
Rivera and councilor Brix Tan.
