21-year-old Filipino
power-puncher Daryl Basadre won
the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) International
Super Flyweight title on
Thursday evening (March 20),
when he destroyed countryman
Julius Alcos in the second round
at the Lagao Gym in General
Santos City.
Both boxers started the fight
calmly, feeling each other out
in the first round, but in round
two Basadre started fast and
quickly floored his more
experienced foe.
Alcos beat the count of referee
Ramuel Ovalo, but Basadre
followed up and soon after
scored a second knock-down.
The game Alcos, a former Asian
champion at Light Flyweight,
also got up from his second trip
to the canvas, but it was clear
that it would only be a matter
of time before the ferocious
Basadre got to him again.
When Basadre jumped on Alcos and
knocked him down again, the
corner of Alcos had seen enough
and wisely saved their man from
further punishment.
With this highly impressive
performance, “Flash” Basadre
improved his professional record
to 11-1-1 (8), while
battle-tested veteran Alcos (29)
was stopped for only the second
time in his career and drops to
22-14 (4).
The fight, billed as Southside
Beatdown, was promoted by JM
Promotions and Sanman
Promotions, in cooperation with
Mayor Ronnel Rivera and
councilor Brix Tan.
