Headlining a big show promoted by SES Boxing at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany on Friday night (March 28), World Boxing Federation (WBF) Womens World Super Featherweight Champion Ramona Kuehne successfully defended her title against previously undefeated Gina Chamie from Hungary.

In a well-fought encounter, Chamie did her best to unsettle the more experienced Kuehne, setting a high pace and trying to take charge, but the 34-year-old from Berlin had an answer for everything and connected nicely to both body and head.

From round four it was Kuehne who forced Charmie to fight off the back-foot, and the German started to have considerable success with her power-punches. Chamie remained competitive, but at this point Kuehne looked like she was on a mission to end the fight early.

In round six, the champion appeared to be in control of the fight, but Chamie was still present and fought well. A few seconds before the end of the round, the Hungarian threw a jab and immediately signaled that something was wrong with her elbow.

Chamie made it through the round, but as the bell sounded to start round seven it was clear that she could not continue, and the challenger broke down in tears as referee Ingo Barrabas waved the fight off. It was another fine performance from Kuehne, but an unfortunate ending to the bout.

“I want to thank Gina for a good fight”, said Kuehne when interviewed after the bout. “She was undefeated, and I had great respect for her before the fight, and I still do. She did well, but I felt that I was doing better and better as the rounds went by, and I was enjoying myself in there.”

Making her sixth defense of the title she won in 2010, Kuehne took her career statistics to 22-1 (8) since turning pro in 2006. At only 24 years of age, Gina Chamie drops to 8-1 (4) but will surely be able to come again.
