Matima Molefe is considered one
of the brightest up and coming
superstars in South African
boxing. Having chalked up a
record of 9-1 with 6 KOs,
including a victory over the
current South African
featherweight champion Subelo
Jubatha, Molefe is an angry man
at present.
His anger is that his proposed
World Boxing Federation world
featherweight title aspirations
had to be put on hold
when Ghanaian opponent Osubama
Akaba pulled out of the fight
with an alleged injury. Instead
of pulling Molefe out of the
show scheduled for Port
Elizabeth, South Africa on 21
May, promoter of the year in
South Africa Siphato Handi
decided to rope in the dangerous
and underrated Siabuleo Ziqula
to face Molefe for a changed
WBFed All Africa title.
Ziqula has a patchy record of
8-7 but has never been stopped
and has been in with no fewer
than four South African
champions. Ziqula can fight and
views this as an opportunity to
gatecrash into the world
ratings. Molefe will need to be
more focused than ever before
and to ensure his outstanding
talents prevail in the ring,
otherwise he might be in for a
torrid night.
Should Molefe win, he has been
assured of a WBFed world title
shot in August, and can prove in
this fight that he has all the
credentials of becoming a
superstar.
World Boxing Federation
President Howard Goldberg, who
knows both fighters and who will
be present at the show, expects
an all out war and has warned
Molefe to underestimate Ziqula
at his own risk:
'Molefe is a potential
superstar, but he needs to
beware big time of the dangerous
Ziqula. Ziqula can fight!' |
