The national professional boxing
commission of the Dominican
Republic, headed by its
president Franklin Nunez,
recently signed and agreement
with the World Boxing Federation
that involves a strong promotion
of the WBFed Latin championships
as a basic foundation. This was
announced at a televised press
conference held at the Coliseo
de Boxeo Carlos Teo Cruz in
Santo Domingo, which was
attended by WBFed Vice President
Matteo Fratini.
“We are greatly proud and wish
to express our gratitude to the
World Boxing Federation to give
us an opportunity to be involved
with this important
organization,” stated Mr. Nunez,
“we shall make good use of this
chance in order to further
develop professional boxing and
succeed to build an avenue for
our boxers to top honours.”
In a second step, the agreement
calls for further representation
of the World Boxing Federation
in South American countries with
the Dominican Republic to become
the operational center for the
region. The initiative for this
cooperation came from former
world champion Freddy Cruz, who
will be in charge of WBFed
activity in the Dominican
Republic.
World Boxing Federation Vice
President Matteo Fratini
returned enthusiatically from
his journey, stating: “There is
an unbeliebable number of
tremendously talented boxers in
this area, potential world
champions, and we hope to
provide them with the breaks
they so far didn’t had with this
cooperation.” |
