Just 24 hours apart, two new
female world champions where
crowned with Germany’s Ramona
‘The Dragon’ Kuehne winning the
WBFed superfeatherweight belt
and France’ Nadya Hokmi
clinching the vacant WBFed
superflyweight title.
First to assume world title
status was Kuehne, who faced
last-minute substitute Maribel
Santana from the Dominican
Republic on Friday, June 4 in
Aschersleben, Germany. The
30-year-old Ramona, who improved
her record to 16-1 (5), wasted
little time, sending Santana
down to the canvas in rounds two
and three, before a final
barrage sealed an impressive KO
win at 1:40 min. of round four.
Besides winning the World Boxing
Federation title, Kuehne also
took the WIBF and WBO titles and
is now a unified champion. The
open air event was staged by the
WBFed’s Promoter of the Year
2009, Ulf Steinforth of SES
Boxing.
One night later, Nadya Hokmi
completly dominated and shut out
Elena ‘Baby Doll’ Reid from
Phoenix in Arizona over 10
rounds to finally become a world
champion in the sixth (!)
attempt, although for all
previous shots at different
versions of world titles, Nadya
had to travel into her
opponents’ backyard.
This time
she boxed beautifully and left
no doubt about her supremacy,
winning 99:91 for judges Robert
Hoyle (USA) and Noel Monnet
(France), with German Andreas
Mueller giving Reid not even a
single round at 100:90.
Previously, Hokmi was the victim
of some doubtful decisions
abroad, but Reid topped it all
when her 2004 fight with German
icon Regina Halmich was adjudged
a draw – after beating Halmich
by a mile. New world champ Nadya
is now 16-6-1 (8). |
