On Saturday June 12, in Krynica
Zdroj, Poland, World Boxing
Federation Cruiserweight
champion Pawel Kolodziej
retained his title with a
knockout in the twelfth round
over game last minute substitute
Parfait Amougui Amougou from
France. Cameroon-born Amougou
stepped in when American
Nicholas Iannuzzi had to
withdraw just days before the
fight.
The defending champion started
the bout looking a little tense,
and seemed surprised by the
aggressive Frenchman’s attacks.
Amougou came to win, but in the
third round Kolodziej began to
find his range and kept Amougou
at bay most of the time with
sharp combinations.
While the challenger never
stopped trying, Kolodziej was
firmly in charge from round four
on, and had great success with
his straight punches. He was
however forced to keep active,
as Amaugou was constantly
looking for openings and ways to
get back into the fight.
As the fight progressed
Kolodziej established his
dominance, and the end came in
round twelve when he caught a
tired Amaugou with a straight
right hand that staggered the
challenger. The Pole didn’t let
the opportunity pas him by, and
a quick follow-up send Amaugou
down and out. Referee Michael
Hook didn’t bother to count, and
immediately waved the fight off
at 2:18 of the final round, with
Amagou seemingly unconscious on
the canvas.
Kolodziej improved his
outstanding record to 26-0 (15),
and will, if things go according
to plans, make the second
defence of his world title
already in September. Bullit
Knockout Promotions are working
on a huge World Boxing
Federation world title
doubleheader that will also
feature world light heavyweight
champion Dawid Kostecki. |
