Carefully guided Sefer Seferi
(Pictured) will have quite a
fight on his hands, when he
squares off with Adnan
Buharalija at the Vienna Prater
on June 26 for the vacant WBFed
Intercontinental cruiserweight
title.
The Swiss-born 31-year-old, now
a professional for just over 3
years, may have won his last 8
fights inside, to raise his
record to 10 straight wins (9
inside), but unlike Buharalija,
he’s not really tested.
Critics may refer to the 9
losses of the Bosnian fighter,
but although losing to the likes
of Asmir Vojnovic (then with 27
wins and 7 losses) and Sweden’s
Atilla Levin (a heavyweight with
31 wins and only 3 losses),
Salvatore Eritta (the Italian
Champion, unbeaten in 18
fights), all in the “other guys
backyard”, he covered himself
with glory and in the meantime
picked up some valuable lessons
in ring generalship.
In July 2005 the pro career of
the 29-year-old Buharalija got
off to a rocky start, with only
1 win and 1 draw and 5 losses,
but slowly he got into the right
grove and after 31 fights, he
has 21 wins (14 coming by way of
knockout) and 2 draws. Add to
that the southpaw stance of
Buharalija and that illustrates
in a nutshell the uphill task
for the co-challenger from
Burgdorf, Switzerland. However,
Seferi is in with more than a
punchers chance and that’s what
makes it very intriguing.
Counting the pro’s and con’s of
each fighter for this equally
matched title fight, the fans
might conclude that it’s not
likely go the scheduled distance
of 12 rounds.
In the second WBFed
Intercontinental championship
bout, this one at middleweight,
hometown favourite Gogi Knezevic
is set to battle it out with
German Omar Siala. Watching from
ringside will be World Boxing
Federation president Howard
Goldberg, who makes the trip
from Cape Town, South Africa to
witness this event personally. |
