Current World Boxing Federation
(WBF) North American Champion
Shawn Miller will attempt to
take his career to the next
level, as he travels to France
to challenge reigning WBF World
Light Heavyweight Champion Tony
Averlant on Friday March 6 at
the Salle du Palais des Sports
in Saint-Quentin.
32-year-old Miller, from Troy,
New York, brings a 14-1-1 (5)
professional record and won the
North American title in 2013
with a wide unanimous decision
over Brooklyn´s Yasin Rashid. He
has since made one defense,
out-pointing the tough Frankie
Filippone last August.
In Tony Averlant, 20-8-2 (4), he
will be facing an experienced
champion, who is not going to
let his world title go easy
having finally reached the top
after coming up short in some of
his biggest fights against top
names.
After winning the European Union
title in 2011, he dropped a
split decision to Eduard
Gutknecht for the European title
in 2012, and the following year
he was stopped by a vicious
body-shot from current WBA world
champion Juergen Braehmer.
A pro since 2006, he rebounded
well from those defeats, and in
May 2014 put on a wonderful
performance to capture the WBF
world crown, defeating 22-1
German co-challenger Serdar
Sahin in a quality fight to
realize his boyhood dream.
Averlant (30) has since been
unable to defend his title due
to stomach problems which
required surgery, but after
effective rehabilitation and a
tough training camp he is now
reportedly in excellent shape
and more than ready to square
off with Miller in front of his
home-town fans.
The Tony Averlant vs. Shawn
Miller WBF World Light
Heavyweight title fight on March
6 in Saint-Quentin, France will
be promoted by Pascal Cordier
and Bleu Ciel Production. A
capacity crowd is expected at
the Palais des Sports.
