On Friday March 20 at the
Complexe Sportif Gayant in
Douai, France, the Douai Boxing
Club and Rani Fellouki presents
a World Boxing Federation (WBF)
championship doubleheader,
featuring local stars Farid
Chebabha and Mohamed Merah.
Chebabha, 16-2-4 (1), will be
making his second defense of the
WBF International Light
Welterweight title, when he
faces Italian Marco Siciliano,
10-3 (5), while Merah, 12-2-3
(4), will try to regain the
vacant WBF International Light
Heavyweight crown against Tomas
Adamek, 21-10-2 (8), from the
Czech Republic.
Having won the title with a
unanimous decision over Michal
Dufek in April 2014, Chebabha
successfully defended it last
November, also on points, in a
terrific fight against Tarik
Madni. If successful on March
20, he will be looking for a
shot at the WBF world title,
currently held by South African
Zolani Marali.
From Turin, Marco Siciliano
challenged for the Italian
national title in 2012, and has
since worked towards another big
break. It now comes against
Chebabha, and at 34 years of age
he knows it could be make or
break, and is expected to be
highly motivated to upset the
Frenchman’s applecart.
Mohamed Merah
forfeited the WBF
International title when he lost
a bid for another organizations
Intercontinental belt this past
December. Now he tries to regain
the vacant title, but wont be in
for an easy ride against Adamek.
The Czech veteran turned pro in
2006, and has since been a part
of no less than ten title fights
against some of the best names
Europe can offer, including
close failed bids for WBF titles
against Denis Simcic (2012) and
Timy Shala (2013).
In 2013 “Jumbo” Adamek drew with
world-ranked Dustin Dirks (27-1)
in Germany, and is coming off a
knockout victory in his last
fight, so he is expected to give
“Parigo” Merah all he can
handle. And with his
fighting-style, it is bound to
be an entertaining fight for the
capacity crowd of around 1500
loyal Douai boxing fans.
