Highly regarded Derby-based
referee Paul Thomas has joined
the World Boxing Federation in
the capacity of representative
for Great Britain and Ireland.
Thomas is actually one of the
best boxing officials over the
last few decades coming out of
England. His refereeing career
started way back in 1977 and
since then he has handled well
over 1.700 contests. Among
those, Thomas has been the third
man in the ring in about 180
world title fights and an
approximate further 300 contests
that were for either European,
Commonwealth, British or
Intercontinental titles.
Upon his appointment, Paul
Thomas stated:
“I have travelled to many countries and seen
how
different commissions control the sport. Believe me,
I have seen the good, the bad
and the ugly in control.
“Now I wish to put all my experience into helping to make the
World Boxing Federation
a respected and powerful world authority.
Certainly the people already involved
are
experienced, honest and reliable. It is because of those three virtues that I offered my services.
I truly believe the World Boxing
Federation is going to be a
main player among the world bodies.” |
