After narrowly losing a majority
decision for the French national
title against world class
champion Karim Achour last
November, Michel Mothmora is set
for an attempt to get right back
in the thick of things when he
takes on Germany’s Baker Barakat
for the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF)
Intercontinental Middleweight
title.
The two gritty veterans will
clash on Friday March 27 in the
main event of a show promoted by
Michel Chagnoux and Ring
Giennois, at the Salle Du Lievre
in Chateauneuf-sur-Loire,
France.
After going 15-21 in his first
eleven years as a professional,
Mothmora is 11-2 since, both
defeats against Achour, and at
34 years of age he currently has
a misleading pro record of 26-23
(9), and aiming to win his
second WBF title in what will be
his fiftieth paid bout.
In November 2013 he captured the
WBF International title with a
split decision over undefeated
Czech Stepan Horvath, and six
months later successfully
defended his crown with a ninth
round knockout of Robizon
Omsarashvili from Georgia.
Now, on the heals of the latest
Achour defeat, he is set to face
the even more experienced
Barakat (33), who brings a
stellar record of 41-17-4 (28)
and has defeated the likes of
former three-time world
title-challenger Khoren Gevor,
and come up short against George
Groves and Dimitri Sartison.
For both boxer it looks like a
dance at the last-chance-saloon,
as defeat will likely send the
loser a big step towards genuine
journeyman status, or even
retirement. But, at the same
time, victory could also mean
that a crack at world
championship glory is an equally
big step closer.
