Unified Womens World Flyweight
Champion Amira Hamzaoui from
France will make her first
title-defense on Saturday April
25 when she squares off with
Hungarian challenger Alexandra
Vlajk at the Hall des Sports
Pierre Gaspard in her hometown
of Epernay.
Hamzaoui won the World Boxing
Federation (WBF) World title
last October by defeating Raja
Amasheh in Germany, and will be
the first boxer to defend a
Unified Womens World Title,
after the WBF launched its
cooperation with the WIBF and
GBU last month and merged the
three championships into the
most prestigious title in female
boxing.
29-year-old Hamzaoui turned
professional in November 2011,
and has since compiled a
professional record of 11-1 (5).
After winning her first nine
starts, she suffered her sole
blemish when she came up short
in a fight for the French
national title in November 2013,
losing to undefeated Laetitia
Arzalier.
The skilled Southpaw rebounded
with a routine victory five
months later, and was considered
a clear underdog when she
traveled to Saarbruecken to
challenge the aforementioned
Amasheh, then the undefeated WBF
world champion, the following
October.
But Hamzaoui defied the odds,
and wound up winning a close but
deserved split decision to lift
her first world title, and now
she is finally ready to defend
her crown in front of hometown
fans, family and friends, in an
event that is supported by the
entire city of Epernay.
Her challenger on the night,
Alexandra Vlajk (35), also only
has one loss on her ledger, a
decision defeat to fellow
Hungarian Renata Domsodi in
March 2014. Now 7-1 (2), she has
since put together two decisive
victories to move herself in
line for what will be her first
world title opportunity.
The Unified Womens World
Flyweight Championship fight
between defending champion Amira
Hamzaoui and challenger
Alexandra Vlajk, and an
undercard featuring local talent
in interesting match-ups, will
be presented by the Epernay
Boxing Club.
