World Boxing
Federation (WBF) World
Middleweight Champion Isaac
Rodrigues will make his first
title-defense on Friday June 19
at the Ginasio Escola Superior
do Educación Física in his
hometown of Belem, Brazil,
taking on South African
Nkululeko Mhlongo.
Having won
the WBF World title in his most
recent fight last December, with
a spectacular knockout of
Mexican Jose Pinzon, Rodrigues
can look forward to a tough
challenge from Mhlongo, the
reigning WBF Intercontinental
champion at Super Welterweight.
Since turning
pro in 2005, Rodrigues has
compiled a professional record
of 21-2 (17), including a
victory over contender Brian
Vera in Verona, New York in
2010. Capturing the WBF world
championship in 2014 has been
the pinnacle of his career, but
at only thirty-years-of age he
is planning on a long reign.
Nkululeko
Mhlongo is 13-2 (11) since
entering the paid ranks in 2007.
He captured the South African
Super Welterweight title in
2011, and made two successful
defenses in 2013 before
defeating fellow countryman
Sikhulule Sidzumo last August to
win the WBF Intercontinental
title.
The clash
against Rodrigues will be
Mhlongo´s first title fight at
Middleweight, but he is
confident that he can carry his
explosive power to the new
weight class. Nicknamed “The
Bull Dog”, he is known for his
rough and entertaining style,
and he is considered a very
dangerous obstacle for the
defending champion.
With seven
well-matched bouts on the
undercard, the Rodrigues vs.
Mhlongo WBF World Middleweight
title fight will headline an
exiting night of professional
boxing, presented by respected
promoter
Wallace
Pereira and his UP Promocoes
Ltds.
