Undefeated
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
Womens World Lightweight
Champion Nicole Wesner will
have
her hands full when she makes
her first title-defense
against former world
Featherweight
and Super Featherweight
ruler Irma Balijagic Adler
on Sunday September
6
at the Markthalle in Wismar,
Germany.
Wesner, 10-0 (5), won the WBF
world title last December with
an emphatic third round knockout
of tough Hungarian Gina Chamie
in her adopted home-country of
Austria, and stayed busy with a
non-title fight stoppage of
Monica Gentili from Italy this
past June. Now she is set to
return to Germany as world
champion.
In Irma Balijagic Adler, 15-5
(8), from Bosnia & Herzegovina
she will likely face her biggest
challenge since turning pro in
2012. Adler won her country’s
national Lightweight crown in
2007, and became world
featherweight champion the
following year.
In 2010 Adler challenged local
favourite Ramona Kuehne in
Germany for the WBF World Super
Featherweight title, but lost on
points after a spirited effort.
In consecutive bouts she came up
short in two more world title
challenges in 2012, at
Lightweight and Super
Featherweight, but in 2013 she
was finally successful in
becoming a two-weight world
titlist, capturing a Super
Featherweight crown.
Later in 2013 she moved back
down in weight in an attempt to
win the WBF World Featherweight
title, but lost a close decision
in France to undefeated Galle
Armand. Last September she
returned with a victory in
Serbia, and is now on a mission
to win her third world
championship in a third weight
class.
Preceded by a stacked undercard,
the Wesner vs. Adler WBF World
Lightweight title fight, will be
promoted by the world champion
herself in association with PSP
Boxteam.
