The World Boxing Federation
(WBF)
®
is facing a very busy weekend
(Friday September 18 – Saturday
September 19) in
the great country of
Mexico, with no less than five
WBF
championship fights lined up on
three shows in three cities.
On Friday, at the Antonio
Palacios arena in Ensenada,
compatriots Kareli Lopez and
Carol Castro will square off
in a rematch
for the vacant WBF Womens World
Strawweight title on a show
promoted by Showbox Promotions.
Undefeated in her last four
fights, Lopez has a professional
record of 7-5-3 (2) and should
probably be considered a slight
favorite against Castro, who
brings a modest, although
deceiving, 6-6 (2) ledger. Lopez
won their first encounter last
May by tenth round retirement.
On the same evening in Chetumal,
Chetumal Promotions will stage a
doubleheader with undefeated
prospects Hiram Gallardo and
Francisco Hernandez Ubieta
fighting for the vacant WBF
Latin Bantamweight title in one
of the two co-features.
Local man Gallardo is 5-0 (0)
since turning professional in
July 2014, and is facing his
third unbeaten adversary in
Ubieta who is so far 4-0 (1) in
the paid ranks. Both will take
part in their first championship
fights.
In the second WBF title fight on
this card, Uriel “El Muneco”
Hernandez is
taking on
Mexico-based Nicaraguan Geiboord
“Sandino”
Omier for the vacant WBF Latino
Super Welterweight crown.
This being his first fight of
2015, Hernandez is 12-2 (7) and
is in with a tough nut to crack
in 26-year-old Geiboord who is
reportedly 7-3-1 (4) and hungry
for success after losing a close
majority decision to another
Mexican, Luis Salamanca, in his
most recent outing.
Saturday
night at the Auditorio Municipal
in Loreto, presented by
Promotora Prombox, its another
WBF
championship Twin-bill featuring
all-Mexican encounters.
In
the headliner, Saul Banos, 11-3
(7), and Rafael Reyes, 16-5
(12), will decide who takes home
the vacant International Super
Bantamweight title, and at
Featherweight Jesus Laguna,
14-9-2 (13) and Rafal Gutierrez,
4-4 (2), are set to duke it out
for that divisions vacant Latin
crown.
