Promoter Dexter T. Tan and Sanman Promotions are back with a highly interesting World Boxing Federation (WBF) championship doubleheader on Saturday September 26 at the Gaisano Mall Atrium in General Santos City, The Philippines.

Billed as “Brawl at the Mall: Revenge or Revalidation”, the card will be headlined by a rematch between Kenny Demecillo, 9-3-1 (6) and compatriot Daryl Basadre, 14-2-1 (10), with the vacant WBF Asia Pacific Bantamweight crown on the line.

They fought last June, with underdog Demecillo winning by surprising although controversial second round stoppage. Many ringside observers believed it was stopped too early, and Basadre is eager to show that the result of the first fight was a fluke:

That was a sorry loss. The defeat would have been easier to accept if it had been a clear loss”, Basadre, a former WBF International titlist at Super Flyweight, recently told Filipino media.

I got hit with a solid left hook, but I was still okay at the time. I was evading the punches until I stepped on a wet-spot that caused me to lose my balance. I was shocked when the referee stopped the fight but didn’t even bother to count.”

Now Basadre will get his opportunity to right what he believes was a wrong, and he has every intention of doing the job in good fashion:

I learned my lesson in our first fight. I became too complacent. My defense was poor. I have to be smart for this upcoming fight. I really worked on my defense, my footwork to keep him at bay. I cant guarantee a knockout win, but I promise to win every round.”

In the evenings co-feature Pinoy prospects Rimar Metuda and Jason Tinampay will square off for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific Featherweight title.

21-year-old Metuda brings an undefeated record of 7-0 (3), while fellow Southpaw Tinampay (20) is 6-1 (5), and it appears to be a very intriguing encounter between talented boxers looking to win their first championship in the professionals.
