Headlining the annual Ben Bril
Memorial
Boxing Gala
at the Theater Carré
in Amsterdam, Netherlands on
Monday October 12, undefeated
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
World Welterweight Champion
Rafik Harutjunjan will make his
first title-defense against
Kelvin Dotel from the Dominican
Republic.
Harutjunjan,
8-0 (5), captured the vacant
world
title when he scored a close
unanimous decision over fellow
undefeated challenger Ilya
Prymak at the same venue last
October, in what was later voted
the WBF Fight of the Year, and
he has since been chomping at
the bit to defend his crown.
Trained by former stand-out
world Lightweight champion Artur
Grigorian, Harutjunjan had
preferred to return to action
earlier, but has instead been
hard at work in training camp
and word out of his team is that
he is in the shape of his life,
and ready to put on a show in
front of the Dutch fans.
Born in Jimani, Dominican
Republic, Kelvin Dotel is now
residing on Spanish holiday
island Mallorca. He brings a
professional record of 9-1 (4),
with his only loss being on
points to current Spanish
national
Light Welterweight
champion Nicolas Gonzalez, who
is currently himself a 14-0
contender.
Since the setback against
Gonzalez, Dotel has rebounded
well and scored three decisive
victories. In his most recent
outing, this past July, he won
the Spanish national
Welterweight crown when he
stopped previously unbeaten
Jorge Fortea (13-0-1) in eight
rounds.
The fighting-styles of champion
and challenger, and the fact
that both boxers are fresh and
eager to impress, almost
guarantees that this encounter
will be another see-saw battle
which will excite and entertain
the fans at ringside.
No one should be fooled by the
relatively few bouts on the
boxers ledgers, this is a real
fight!
