Myriam Dellal from France
achieved a long-standing goal to
become a world champion on
Friday night, October 9, in her
home town
of Clermont Ferrand, when she
won the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) Womens World
Light Welterweight title.
At the Maison des Sports,
Dellal
improved her professional record
to 12-5-3 (2) by scoring a close
but unanimous decision over
tough and proven Bulgarian
Milena Koleva, who
put up a great effort but sees
her ledger
drop to a misleading 6-6-1 (0).
With around
2000 spectators having enjoyed a
good fight, judges
Tonio Tiberi and Uwe Lorch,
from Luxembourg and Germany
respectively,
both scored the fight 97-94,
while
French
judge Pascal Philibert had it
96-94.
Referee in charge was Bertrand
Chagnoux from France.
Milena Koleva started the fight
best and edged the first three
rounds
by landing
hard shots to body and head.
She even hurt the
local
favorite with
a well-timed uppercut in the
third, but then appeared to tire
as she let Dellal back into the
fight.
While Koleva
did have her moments in the
second half of the bout, it was
clearly Dellal in control and
she was now the aggressor and
landing combinations to both
head and body. Koleva tried her
best to turn the fight back in
her favor, but Dellal was too
smart and accurate with her
punches.
Promoted by
Pierre Robin, the Myriam Dellal
vs. Milena Koleva WBF world
title fight was televised live
in France by Ma Chaine Sport.
