On Friday
night, October 23, in Polokwane,
South Africa, two new World
Boxing Federation (WBF)
International champions were
crowned.
One was
victorious in highly
entertaining fashion, while the
other had to settle for a
somewhat lukewarm ending.
Frans
Rambola, taking part in only his
sixth professional bout but
already his third title-fight,
scored a unanimous decision over
fellow undefeated Stanis Apano
to lift the vacant WBF
International Super Welterweight
title after twelve grueling
rounds.
With both
boxers possessing considerable
power, they went all out from
the start and tried their best
to get the other man out of
there before the final bell.
However, the fight went to the
cards with a capacity crowd on
their feet, cheering the
fighters on throughout the
action-packed affair.
Judges
Phumeza Zinakile, Siya Mani and
Ben Ncapayi all had Rambola, who
goes
to 6-0 (2), winning the fight by
scores of 117-112, 116-112 and
117-111 respectively, but
South
Africa-based Congolese
Stanis Apanu
(now 11-1, 9
KOs),
did himself
proud.
Referee was Simon Mokadi.
In the co
main event, Cleutus “Pac Man”
Mbele took home the vacant WBF
International Bantamweight title
by technical knockout, when his
opponent Mxolisi Nombewu
dislocated his shoulder in the
second round and was rushed to
hospital.
It was not
the manner in which he had hoped
to win, but Mbele improved his
record to 14-8-4 (7), while the
unfortunate Nombewu drops to
11-7 (6).
