Noni Tenge is gunning for her
fourth world championship on
Friday November 4, when she
takes on Julie Tshabalala in an
all-South African battle for the
vacant World Boxing Federation
(WBF) Womens World Super
Welterweight title in
Pretoria.
“She
Bee Stingin” Tenge, 14-1-1 (10),
won the WBF world welterweight
title in 2009 and made two
successful defenses in 2010. In
2011 she captured the IBF world
welterweight crown, but lost an
attempt to win the WBA world
Super Welterweight title in
2012.
Last year she added the Interim
WBA Welterweight title to her
collection when she defeated
Dominican Oxandia Castillo, but
now she is again ready to move
up in weight and try to further
build on her fine resume by
becoming a two-weight world
titlist.
In former South African national
Middleweight champion Julie
Tshabalala, Tenge will be in
with a tough and determined foe
who, despite a modest 5-2-2 (1)
record, has proven her worth on
the world stage and already
faced one of the best
Pund-For-Pound boxers in the
sport.
In 2012 Tshabalala traveled to
Czechia
to challenge undefeated WBF
world champion Christina Hammer,
and while she lost a clear
unanimous decision she performed
well and will have learned a lot
from the experience. She will
also be more comfortable at the
lighter weight, and has
guaranteed to upset the
applecart by beating Tenge.
The Noni Tenge vs. Julie
Tshabalala WBF Womens World
Super Welterweight title fight,
a fight with massive amounts of
local pride at stake, is the
main event of a show promoted by
Mbali Zantsi, and will be
preceded by an interesting
undercard featuring local
talent.
