World Boxing Federation (WBF)
Asia Pacific Bantamweight ruler
Kenny Demecillo,10-3-1 (7), will
make his first title-defense on
Saturday December 12 in Davao
City, Philippines when he faces
the most experienced and
accomplished foe of his career
in former world champion Edrin
Dapudong, 31-6 (19).
Demecillo came off the canvas to
win the WBF title with an eight
round stoppage of Daryl Basadre
in September, and the
hard-punching 23-year-old is now
looking to build on his momentum
with another impressive victory
over Dapudong.
After winning a slew of regional
belts and coming up short in a
WBA world title-challenge to
Hernan Marquez in 2011, Edrin
Dapudong (29) was on the wrong
end of a split decision against
IBO world Super Flyweight
Champion Gideon Buthelezi in
South Africa the following year.
In June 2013 he didn’t leave
things up to the judges, as he
won the rematch, and the IBO
crown, by stunning first round
knockout. Unfortunately his
reign was short, as he traveled
back to South Africa in July
2014 and lost the title by
another split decision, to
Lwandile Sityatha.
Nicknamed “The Sting”, Dapudong
since moved up to Bantamweight
and is coming off two convincing
inside-the-distance victories.
Beating Demecillo on December 12
will take him a long way towards
another crack at world honors
next year.
On the same day, in Gien,
France, hometown hero and WBF
Intercontinental Middleweight
Champion Michel Mothmora, 27-24
(10), will headline in a defense
of his title against rugged
Hungarian veteran Laszlo
“Bulldog” Fazekas, 28-22-1 (18).
Mothmora won the title last
March by stopping Germany´s
Baker Barakat in round six, but
can expect more resistance from
former Hungarian champion
Fazekas, who has only been
stopped twice and gone the full
distance with notable names such
as Damian Jonak (33-0-1), John
O´Donnell (28-2) and former
world champion Paul Malignaggi
(33-7).
Also in France on December 12,
the vacant WBF Womens World
Featherweight title will be on
the line when Stephanie Ducastel
takes on former Super
Bantamweight World titlist
Caroline Schroeder from Germany
in Strasbourg.
Despite a modest 5-3-1 (0)
ledger, Ducastel is quite
accomplished in the pro ranks,
winning the French national
title in 2012 and the European
title last February. Now she is
looking to climb the ladder even
further against Schroeder, in
what will be her first world
title bout.
Caroline Schroeder, 8-2 (7),
captured two Super Bantamweight
world titles in December 2014,
beating Austrian Elke Beinwachs
in two rounds. She lost the
titles this past October, when
Switzerland-based Japanese Aniya
Seki edged her by close
decision.
Being the much harder puncher,
Schroeder will fancy her chances
of becoming a two-weight world
champion in France, but fighting
in her hometown in the biggest
fight of her life, Ducastel must
be considered a slight favorite
in this intriguing match-up.
