Beginning the
new year on a positive note, the
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
announced a complete
re-structuring of its business
in America, with a few new faces
joining the team and some
well-established staff members
being promoted, that will
hopefully lead into an exciting
future.
Sergio Sotelo, an accomplished
member of the WBF since 2010,
will now assume a new position
as Chairman for North & Central
America. Sotelo has done an
outstanding job for the WBF,
especially in Mexico, and has
already been hard at work at his
new post.
He has
appointed Raul Wilhelmy, current
President of the Mexicali State
Commission and a highly
experienced and respected
administrator for many years, as
the new regional representative
for Mexico. ,Wilhelmy, a lawyer
by trade, is expected to
contribute value and expertise
to the WBF going forward.
Former female
world champion, Terri ‘The Boss’
Moss has been appointed as the
new WBF Women’s Boxing Chairman
with immediate effect. Terri,
who resides in Georgia, USA, is
a boxing person through and
through, and her experience in
the ring as well as outside in
various positions should have
her in good stead with the WBF
as the year progresses.
Marcelo
Ramia, who has been doing
excellent work for the WBF as a
Regional Representative in
Brazil, will now assume
responsibility for the entire
South America as Chairman for
that jurisdiction and is already
underway negotiating world title
defenses for Brazil’s Isaac
Rodrigues (middleweight) and
Colombia’s Alexander Brand
(supermiddleweight).
WBF President Howard Goldberg
said: “I am delighted with the
promotion of Sergio and Marcelo
as well as the introduction of
Terri and Raul. It sure makes me
confident that they will bring
their usual professionalism and
expertise to boxing in their
regions, and look forward to our
WBF moving ahead at an
accelerating pace in North and
South America and in our women’s
boxing department, too, of
course.”
