Former Indonesian champion Agus
Kustiawan took a significant
step in his career when he
defeated Lloyd Jardeliza from
the Philippines on Saturday
night, April 2, to win the
vacant World Boxing Federation
(WBF) Asia Pacific Featherweight
title.
Backed by a sizable crowd at the
Pangsuma Stadium in Pontianak on
Indonesian island Borneo,
Kustiawan had too much grit and
skill for the game visitor, but
Jardeliza never stopped trying
and as the bigger puncher of the
two he was dangerous from the
first bell to the last.
After twelve rounds of
entertaining action, broadcast
live to millions of viewers by
Okezone TV, judges Muhammad
Rois, Eric Suwarno and Reinhard
Situmpul scored the fight
115-112, 115-111 and 116-111 for
the local man, who proudly
accepted the WBF championship
belt and declared his intentions
to go for world honors.
The new champion improved his
professional statistics to 15-4
(6), and sends 21-year-old
Jardeliza back to the
Philippines with a deceiving
7-4-3 (6) record, after a fine
performance which indicates
there will be more big nights
for him in the ring.
The Agus Kustiawan vs. Lloyd
Jardeliza World Boxing
Federation (WBF) Asia Pacific
Featherweight title fight was
promoted by Mayor Kal Yudi
Setiawan.
